You Do Not Need to Be More to Begin
There are moments in life when we feel unqualified for the things placed in front of us.
We tell ourselves we need to become more confident, more disciplined, more talented, more organized, or somehow more “ready” before we can step into growth.
But scripture reminds us that God does not wait for perfection before He begins working through us.
He simply asks for a willing heart.
Recently, I found myself reflecting on the story of Gideon. Gideon saw himself as weak, insignificant, and unprepared. He described himself as the least in his father’s house — just a poor farmer trying to survive quietly.
But God spoke to him differently.
“The Lord is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.” — Judges 6:12
I love this scripture because Gideon did not yet see in himself what God already saw in him.
And honestly, I think many of us live there sometimes.
We underestimate our ability to grow.We disqualify ourselves too quickly. We believe we need to become someone else before we can begin.
But growth often starts exactly where we are.
Pilates has taught me something similar.
No one begins strong. No one begins perfectly balanced. No one begins fully confident.
Strength is developed slowly through consistency, patience, and willingness to keep showing up.
Some days movement feels graceful.Other days it feels uncomfortable and uncertain.
But every breath, every stretch, and every small effort builds a stronger foundation over time.
Faith works much the same way.
We do not need to have everything figured out before we begin healing, moving, believing, or rebuilding.
God can work with willing hearts. He can strengthen tired people. He can grow confidence inside uncertain seasons.
A Gentle “Foundation” Pilates Practice
This week, focus less on performance and more on simply beginning.
Seated Breathwork — 1 minute
Sit tall and breathe deeply.Allow your shoulders to soften with every exhale.
Standing Roll Downs — 6 slow reps
Move slowly through the spine one vertebra at a time.
Bird Dog — 8 reps each side
Focus on stability, balance, and patience.
Glute Bridges — 10 reps
Lift slowly and with control.Focus on building strength from your center.
Child’s Pose — 1 minute
Rest fully.Allow yourself to pause without guilt.
As you move, remind yourself:
“I do not need to become someone else to begin growing.”
Closing Reflection
Maybe today you feel more like Gideon than a mighty warrior.
Maybe you feel tired, uncertain, overwhelmed, or unprepared.
But God is not asking you to arrive already perfected.
He is asking you to trust Him enough to begin.
And perhaps strength is not found in becoming “more.”
Perhaps true strength is found in believing that God can work through us exactly as we are — one faithful step at a time.
